Exploring the Power of Self-Love: Nurturing Your Self-Worth and Self-Respect



Before I even start this article I want to take a moment to reflect, thank and show my gratitude for the ANZACS both passed and those still with us. In the heart of each historic event lies a tapestry of individual stories, each thread woven with the essence of human experience. It is on such a cool autumn afternoon that the spirits of the past seem to converge with the living, offering a bridge between the realms of memory and the palpable present.


As the sun kisses our beautiful land, we see community ceremonies across the nation burgeoned to embrace a community of diverse ages and backgrounds, all drawn together to honor the legacy of those who served. This occasion, marked not just by the increased numbers but by the palpable sense of connection, serves as a poignant reminder of the enduring impact of past sacrifices on our collective consciousness.


These gatherings, enriched by the solemnity of the Last Post and the simple yet profound act of remembrance with sprigs of rosemary, encapsulates the essence of what I am and aim to foster—a deeper connection to the web of life and the vibrations that connect us all. By acknowledging the sacrifices of the past and holding space for healing and reflection, we contribute to raising the collective consciousness and nurturing a more empathetic and interconnected world. Such moments remind us of our shared humanity and the importance of remembering, healing, and growing together.


Which is why I am writing this. There is such a push for community and one doing for another and this sense of mateship, but is mateship and acceptance of our fellow man/woman still alive in the spirit today as it was when our ANZACS fought for us? Has the focus gone onto another instead of ourselves and the “I care about you, because I care about me” is now just a distant memory? Either way I wanted to take a moment to delve into the intricate tapestry of self-love.




Self. Love. Self-love. A concept as ancient as humanity yet often misunderstood in our contemporary society. The journey to understanding self-love is complex, marred by societal norms that often equate self-worth with productivity, success, and external validation. This creates a dichotomy between self-love and self-dislike, leaving many to question the very essence of their being. Why do so many of us harbor feelings of self-discontent? The answer lies not in the absence of love but in the misinterpretation of what it means to truly love oneself.


Self-love, in its purest form, is the foundation upon which we build a life of fulfillment and joy. It is not merely a state of self-acceptance but an active process of recognizing our inherent worth and nurturing our well-being. However, this journey is often confused with the shadow side of self-love – narcissism. Narcissism, characterized by selfishness and arrogance, is a distortion of self-love. It focuses on self-aggrandizement at the expense of others, lacking the elements of empathy and humility. Healthy self-love, on the other hand, encourages self-esteem and confidence without diminishing the value of others. It fosters a balanced relationship with oneself, characterized by kindness, understanding, and respect.


Creating a balance between self-love and humility is essential for personal growth and healthy relationships. This equilibrium allows us to honor our needs and boundaries while remaining open and compassionate towards others. It is in this space that true healing begins. Through personal reflection and embracing our vulnerabilities, we learn the art of self-forgiveness and the power of self-compassion. It is a reminder that to love another, we must first embark on the journey of loving ourselves. Our experiences, as unique as they are universal, teach us that amidst the chaos of life, self-love is the beacon guiding us home.


I have realised lately, I haven’t exactly been practicing what I preach and as I sit and tune into the earth and the spirits that preceded us, and into the complexities of self-love, let us remember to be gentle with ourselves and to stop distracting ourselves from our inner calling and voice. In a world where true role models of healthy love are scarce, it is up to us to become the embodiment of the love we seek and to be the example of the change we wish to see in this world and after a period of introspection, I have decided it is time to put the focus back onto myself and indulge in some self-care to reignite my torch and illuminate the path.


My presence will be quite minimal as I focus on who I am and what I want, as I heal on my own personal journey to the beauty of being authentically me!


Remember, in the vastness of the universe, you are a unique expression of human nature, deserving of love and compassion. As I take a step back to realign with my essence, I invite you to join me in this journey of self-discovery and transformation.


Together, let us raise the vibration of the earth, one act of self-love at a time.....
